Former Jamaican PM, PJ Patterson, Writes Open Letter To David Cameron

Following the British Prime Minister, David Cameron's visit to Jamaica, the former Jamaican Prime Minister,  PJ Patterson, has written an open letter to PM David Cameron, urging him to arrange an apology for the people of Jamaica. He tells hims the good people of Jamaica  deserves an apology and not prisons.
"You have refused to apologise," Patterson said. "Yet your government has apologised to everyone else for horrid crimes. Are we not worthy of an apology or less deserving?" he questioned.
Read full letter below
PATTERSON'S OPEN LETTER TO CAMERON:
Dear Prime Minister Cameron,
We who belong to the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and cherish the value of the Westminster tradition should seek continually to foster rather than diminish it.
Given the honour which you were afforded to address the Joint Sitting of Jamaica’s Parliament on Tuesday, September 30, 2015, the traditional Parliamentary right of debate and reply could not be exercised by any of our Members who were in attendance. As I watched your presentation, knowing them on both sides of the aisle as I do, their good behaviour which you commended ought not to be interpreted as acquiescence in everything you said.
The gifts you presented in Gordon House were both welcome and timely. Only the shrewdest observers of Parliamentary custom would have noticed that the package you offered there discreetly omitted any mention of a ₤25 million contribution for the building of a prison.
That was understandable, as what exists constitutes no more than a Non-binding Memorandum of Understanding. You rightfully appreciated that its inclusion would have been premature as the framework Agreement has to be followed by further intensive negotiations and then the requisite legislation.
You wisely chose instead to add there the announcement of ₤30 million to make our hospitals more resilient to natural disasters. Given our vulnerability and the danger of climate change, this donation was highly appreciated.
Despite your recognition of not being “the only show in town”, the words of strengthening the bonds of friendship and the down-payment you brought would have been well received throughout the entire Caribbean.
Prime Minister, the most noble intentions were jarred by those portions of your address which asserted that slavery was a long time ago, in the historical past and “as friends we can move on together to build for the future.”
Your host, The Most Hon. Portia Simpson-Miller, in her gracious welcome referred to the difficult issue of reparation which should be discussed in “a spirit of mutual respect, openness and understanding as we seek to actively engage the U.K. on the matter.”
You chose instead to throw down the gauntlet.
Mere acknowledgement of its horror will not suffice.
It was and still is a most heinous crime against humanity — a stain which cannot be removed merely by the passage of time.

The attempt to trivialise and diminish the significance of 300 years of British enslavement of Africans and the trade in their bodies reflect the continued ethnic targeting of our ancestors and their progeny for discriminatory treatment in both the annals of history and in the present.
The 180 years of slavery in Jamaica remain fresh in living memory. There are people alive in Jamaica today whose great grandparents were a part of the slavery system and the memory of slavery still lingers in these households and communities.
Those 180 years were followed by another 100 years of imposed racial apartheid in which these families were racially oppressed by British armies and colonial machinery. The scars of this oppression are still alive in the minds and hearts of million Jamaicans.
To speak of slavery as something from the Middle Ages is insufficient. For our communities its legacies are still present in their memory and emotions. To reject this living experience is to repudiate the very meaning and existence of these people’s lives.
How can we simply forget it and move on to the future? If there is no explicit admission of guilt now, when will be the proper time?
You argue that Britain abolished the slave system and the credit for this resonates in the British Parliament today and shows British compassion and diplomacy.
Where is the prior confession that Britain fashioned, legalised, perpetuated and prospered from the slave trade?
Indeed, the facts speak to a different explanation. In Jamaica the enslaved led by Sam Sharpe tried to abolish slavery themselves three years before your Parliament acted. The British army destroyed these freedom fighters and executed their leaders.
This attempt to destroy the seed of freedom and justice in Jamaica continued for another hundred years. In 1865 the peasants sought to occupy Crown lands in order to survive widespread hunger. The British government sent in the army and massacred those people, executing Paul Bogle, George William Gordon and other Leaders.
Furthermore, the British Act of Emancipation reflected that the enslaved people of Jamaica were not human but property. The 800,000 Africans in the Caribbean and elsewhere were valued at ₤47 million. The government agreed to compensate the slave owners ₤20 million, and passed an Emancipation Act in which the enslaved had to work free for another four to six years in order to work off the ₤27 million promised slave owners. It was they who paid for their eventual freedom.
The enslaved paid more than 50 per cent of the cost of their market value in compensation to slave owners. This is what your Emancipation Act did. The enslaved got nothing by way of compensation. The Act of Emancipation was self serving and was designed to support British national commercial interests alone.
You have refused to apologise. Yet your government has apologised to everyone else for horrid crimes. Are we not worthy of an apology or less deserving?

Mere acknowledgement of the crime is insufficient. The international community and international law call for formal apologies when crimes against humanity are committed. The UN has deemed slave trading and slavery as crimes against humanity. The refusal to apologise is a refusal to take responsibility for the crime. In a law abiding world this is not acceptable.
Contrary to your view, the Caribbean people will never emerge completely from the “long, dark shadow” of slavery until there is a full confession of guilt by those who committed this evil atrocity.
“The resilience and spirit of its people” is no ground to impair the solemnity of a privileged Parliamentary occasion and allow the memory of our ancestors to be offended once again.
The Caribbean people have long been looking to the future. This is what we do in our development visions, but these legacies are like millstones around our necks. We look to reparatory justice as the beginning of shaping a new future. We invite Britain to engage in removing this blot on human civilisation so that together we can create a new and secure future.
ONE LOVE.
Yours sincerely,
P.J. Patterson

Africa's 'Largest Elephant' Killed By German Hunter

Another elephant has just been killed in Zimbabwe by a German hunter. This happened less than three months after Cecil the Lion was shot dead. The elephant killed by this German hunter has killed is said to weigh122lb and the ugly incident took place at a game park in Zimbabwe.
Its tusk is almost touching the ground and they have a combined weight of 120lb, making it a rare breed of elephant in Zimbabwe. The elephant is said to be between 40 - 60 years old.
According to analysts, the elephant is the biggest  to be shot in living memory, at the time of its death on the 8th of October, 2015.
The elephant thought to be the oldest and biggest elephant to be killed in Africa in 30 years. This abuse and callous act is said to have cost the German hunter $60,000 (£39,000) in hunting permit, to take part in the organised hunt.

The man, who the hunt’s organisers have refused to name, had travelled to Zimbabwe to conduct a 21-day game hunt including the Big Five of elephants, leopards, lions, buffalo and rhinoceros.
The kill was celebrated in hunting forums around the world, where it was suggested he might have been the biggest elephant killed in Africa for almost 30 years.
Conservationists and photographic safari operators in the area expressed their outrage on last night (Oct 15), saying the animal was one of a kind and should have been preserved for all to see.

See how church members chased away a pastor for impregnating maid

There was commotion on Sunday at the United Methodist Church, Mafoluku, in the Oshodi area of Lagos as members of the church chased away their pastor for allegedly impregnating his housemaid.

It was learnt that the pastor, Barkuma Andrew, was stopped from leading the church seven months ago when the housemaid, who was also a member of the church, Grace, had complications after aborting the pregnancy.

Andrew had lived with his wife, children, wife’s cousin, Favour, and Grace in a three-bedroomed flat on the church premises before the incident. It was gathered that the members had petitioned the Central Conference of the church in Taraba State to investigate the alleged accusation.

Then sought the service of another pastor three weeks ago when the district reportedly failed to probe Andrew. At 10 am on Sunday, members of the church showed up for Sunday service only to see that Andrew and some “unknown” people had commenced the service.

This angered the congregation which proceeded to chase out Andrew and his group from the church. Men from the Makinde Police Division, including the DPO, were said to have intervened after the incident was reported at the station.

A member of the church and a former secretary to Andrew, Moses Sherima, said that the pastor sent his wife to her village after he impregnated Grace.

He said: “My room is opposite pastor’s apartment and I was his secretary. When he started dating that girl (Grace), I called his wife’s cousin, Favour, on the matter. She said Grace used to tell her whenever the pastor had sex with her."

“At a point, I had to move upstairs when I could no longer bear it. The day that abortion happened, I was sleeping inside my room when I heard Grace screaming. I rushed there and saw blood coming out from her private parts. When the wife came back from one of her numerous journeys, he told her to send Favour away.”

Another church member, John Komboroh, said the church was embarrassed by Andrew’s conduct, adding that they were tired of his leadership. He said:“The petition of adultery against the pastor had been sent to the bishop at the Central Conference. He came here, but did not do anything about it. That was why we wrote to the main body, the Southern Conference to give us another pastor. His (Andrew’s) action is an embarrassment to us. We don’t want him again.”

The new pastor of the church, Reverend James Sunday, said,: “We were about to start our service this morning when we met the old pastor and some unknown people already holding the service. I calmed down my people to avoid chaos.”

Another resident and a female member, who identified herself only as Blessing, said the pastor had once made sexual advances to her.

“My husband is not always at home. The pastor would call me in the night and asked if I had slept. One day he entered my room and gave me a soft slap on my back. I had only the wrapper on me. I was surprised and told my neighbours.”

Accused African American bank robber says he stole for daughter's chemotherapy treatments

A Michigan man accused of robbing a credit union told police he needed the money to help pay for his daughter's chemotherapy treatments, authorities said.
Brian Randolph, 23, is accused of robbing the Vibe Credit Union in South Lyon, Michigan, on Aug. 12.

Randolph entered the building and passed a note demanding money, police said. While the note indicated he had a shotgun hidden in his clothes, he never revealed the firearm and police told ABC News that he said he did not actually bring a gun with him.

He has been charged with armed robbery and bank robbery and had his bond set at $500,000, police said.
After his arrest, Randolph told police his motive for the robbery was to help pay for his daughter's cancer treatments, authorities said.

Randolph told police that his insurance company was no longer paying for his daughter's chemotherapy treatments and that he robbed the credit union in a last-ditch attempt to find a way to pay for her treatments, according to South Lyon Public Information Officer Lieutenant Christopher Sovik.

Randolph's family, including the mother of his 1-year-old daughter, told local ABC TV that they think he was desperately trying to get money before his daughter's upcoming chemotherapy treatment.

Asia Dupree, Randolph's girlfriend and mother of their 1-year-old daughter, told WXYZ-TV that their daughter Brialynn has retinoblastoma, a cancer that forms in the eye.

"I guess it was desperation. Time was ticking right before her appointment came up," Dupree said.

Randolph is scheduled to make his first court appearance today since his arraignment, but the name of his lawyer was not immediately available, according to the court clerk.

"If you're fat or a lesbian, don't wear my dress': Herve Leger designer says

The boss of figure-hugging frock Herve Leger launched a bizarre attack on some of the women who buy his iconic bandage dresses. Patrick Couderc has urged ‘voluptuous’ women and those with 'very prominent hips and a very flat chest' to steer clear of the creations.

And in a dangerously outspoken interview with The Mail on Sunday, he risked further offence by claiming that ‘committed lesbians’ would never want to wear such tight clothes anyway because they preferred to be ‘butch and leisurely’.
Mr Couderc, the UK managing director of the French fashion house, lamented that the skin-tight bandage dress - imitated countless times by cheaper High Street brands – had become a victim of its own success, with too many now seen on the wrong-shaped customers.

He went on to despair of older women who insisted on ‘displaying everything like you’re 23’ and women who wore underwear that was too small.

The brand’s iconic bandage dress – so-called because it is made from strips of stretchy fabric like bandages wound around the body – was pioneered in the 1980s and has since been worn by a host of celebrities from Elle Macpherson and Victoria Beckham to Rihanna and Kate Winslet.

Ladies!! Find Out How To Be Kissable, Point #4 Is A Must Read

soft_lips
I hear men all the time, complaining about how much they cherish women who are kissable. The sad part is most ladies do not know this. Even those that know this still don't know how to make to make themselves kissable. In this post, I am going to be addressing this serious issue.
Below is a list of 7 ways you can make yourself kissable again

Have a fresh breath

For you to be kissable, you should be very fresh, breath wise. Before going on that date, brush your teeth, floss and try get a mint flavoured lip balm or any other good flavour of your choice. One of the greatest turn offs is bad breath.

Keep a soft and supple lips

Men do love their ladies keeping their lips soft and supple. Supple lips are very visible and men find it so inviting, you should endeavour to keep them soft. One of the simple ways to achieve this is by moisturising, gently exfoliating, protecting from sun and hydrating your lips from with.

Lips should not be too shiny or too dark

It's sad when ladies go on dates with their lips shining as if they used a bucket full of paint. Some ladies even use dark coloured lipsticks, which can be creepy, considering the fact that most dates are usually in the night. A tinted lip balm and light colours are the best. If you must use a dark colour lipsticks, it is always better to use a colour that's a shade or two darker than your lips.

Maintain good skin

Good skin is men's delight. Men find ladies with good and smooth skin attractive. Make sure your skin is in great condition. Nobody knows your skin as much as you do, do the needful by not making your skin too dry, greasy and shiny. You the right lotions and creams.

Keep your mouth dry

You do not want your partner to see large deposit of saliva during conversation, same way you don't want to deposit a drum of saliva in your partner's mouth during kissing. This is a big turn off for men, generally. Try to keep your mouth dry but moist and not full of saliva.

Be an interesting

This point should have been #1. You guys have to connect. Be knowledgeable in whatever topic you are discussing. Keep a calm composure. Be open. be yourself. And of course, smile. Before anyone would even think of kissing, there has to be connection. It is the connection that will draw him to other qualities you possess.

Visit Your Dentist

We all know the job of a dentist. There might be certain things about your mouth that you cannot deal with. A visit in two years is recommended, if you do not have any immediate issues. Remember, I did not say you should visit a cosmetic surgeon.

OMG!!! Pastor Brutally Rapes 13-yr-Old Girl During Night Vigil

Things will never be the same again for a 13 year old girl after she was brutally raped by a man of God in the middle of a spirit filled night vigil.

The pastor with a new generation pentecostal church located along Port Harcourt Road in Onitsha, Anambra State, identified as Nzube Ohuama, has been arrested after he allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl during a vigil night programme organised by the church.

The young victim had gone with her parents to the church for the monthly vigil when the pastor lured her into a private room attached to the church and raped her.

CIB reported that Ohuama had earlier prophesied to the girl's parents three days before the incident that she had an evil spirit that was tormenting her and he had to conduct a special prayer for her at the programme.

The pastor, according to information, had further warned the parents of the girl that if the evil spirit tormenting the girl was not exorcised, a lot of harm would continue dogging them, so they had given him the go ahead to deliver her of the foul spirit but instead of doing what he promised, he ended up defiling her.

It was gathered that at about 1 am when the vigil was in full swing, the pastor called out the girl and told the congregation that he had a special assignment he needed to carry out on her alone and took her to the private room.

It was while he was at it that the girl's sister walked to the pastor's office and was surprised to hear her sister crying in pains. When the girl finally came out, she had blood stains on her and the sister pressured her into telling what Pastor Ohuama did to her.

They reported the rape to their parents who lodged a complaint at the Fegge Police Station and Pastor Ohuama was promptly arrested.

Mum who left 2 children home alone for THREE WEEKS and went on holiday escapes jail

In a rather bizarre ruling, a mother who left her two children home alone for THREE WEEKS while she flew abroad to a wedding has escaped prosecution.
Her children, one under the age of ten, were left to fend for themselves while she was out of the country.
The woman was arrested on suspicion of child neglect and her children were initially then placed with foster parents.
She left the family home in the Salford area in January to go on holiday.
The mum was arrested at London’s Heathrow Airport when she returned to the UK,the Manchester Evening News reported.
It is understood that the children continued to go to school while their mother was away.

Now Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that the woman has been issued with a police caution and will not face court action.
The M.E.N understands that when the children were found there was no food left, no heating, no gas, and the house was in a unkempt condition.
The mother had not intended to return until later in February but came back early after being alerted that police and children’s services officers were investigating the children being left alone.
In a statement issued by GMP at the time they said said: “A woman has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect. The female was arrested having re-entered the country in February 2015. The female has been bailed for further enquiries.
“Two children are now in the care of the local authority. It is believed that the female left the UK in mid January 2015.”
Both children were initially placed in foster care, but it is understood they have now been returned to their mother.
A spokeswoman for the council said: “We are continuing to work with the family.”

Woman confesses to selling 19 kids to ritualists in Imo state

A woman named Chioma Anoruo has been arrested by the Owerri, Imo state Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), after she confessed to selling about 19 children to ritualists. According to a report by The Guardian, Mrs. Anoruo was arrested by the Orlu community local vigilante group. She was subsequently handed over to the police.

During the raid, five children, including a new-born baby, already kidnapped for sale, were rescued from her house, while a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) belonging to her husband, Emeka, who is now on the run, was recovered along with an undisclosed large sum of money.

According to The Heat Nigeria, an online media, residents had complained of incessant disappearance of children in the area, which was of serious concern to the community leaders.
“This year alone, the community has recorded a large number of missing children,” says a vigilance group member of the community who wanted his name off-print.

On March 30, Master Dominion Obasi, a pupil of Ezioha Community School, Okporo was kidnapped in the school premises and since then, has not been found.

While the community was searching for him, a son of a Deeper Life Church pastor was also kidnapped and is still missing.

However, two sons of the same parents, identified as Chukwuemeka and Chigozie, pupils of Holy Trinity Anglican School, Amazu in Okporo were abducted while returning home after their school had closed for the day.

As the abductors were trying to escape with them on their motorcycle, a palm wine tapper, who saw the two men while on top of a palm tree, raised the alarm, which attracted the attention of vigilance group members, who pursued them and apprehended one of the suspects identified as Ebuka.
The arrest of Anorue followed Ebuka’s confession that she and her husband were his sponsors, who buy each child from his gang for N100,000.

According to the vigilance group member, when Chioma’s husband, Emeka sighted them, he escaped through the back door while his wife was apprehended and forced to open their doors where the victims were found inside a room in captivity.

During her confession, she revealed that human merchandise had been their family business for years. She confessed that her major work in the business was to keep the victims while her husband would contact buyers and sell them.

She also confessed that they had sold more than 19 children and the remaining five were waiting to be sold to their customers before her arrest.

Meanwhile, the vigilance group has transferred the suspect and the rescued victims to SCID Owerri under a department led by one Supol Obi for further investigation.

Nigerian Man Arrested in Iceland for Allegedly Infecting Women with HIV

A Nigerian man, whose identity is yet to be revealed, has been arrested for allegedly affecting young women with HIV.
The accused is said to be a Nigerian asylum seeker who arrived in Iceland in August 2014, Iceland Review reports.
According to the report:
Part of the investigation includes finding out if any more women have been in contact with the man, and whether they might also be infected…
Details of the man’s suspected crimes have not been released. One likely explanation for his arrest could be engaging in unprotected sex with the women without telling them he has HIV—an act which would be against the law.

Read How Amnesty International Is Set To Legalize Prostitution

500 Amnesty delegates from more than 80 countries will gather at an international conference next week in Dublin to vote on whether to advocate the elimination of all penalties for sex work, on the grounds that it is a matter of privacy between consenting adults. Simply put, the Human Right group will vote on a new policy that calls for the global decriminalization of sex trafficking.

The sex-trade policy, according to the group is the best way to respect, protect, and fulfill the human rights of sex workers.

Its Deputy Executive Director, Cammie Croft said, "Sex workers are one of the most marginalized groups in the world so it is important that we understand how, as Amnesty International, we can work to support their human rights.

The violations that sex workers can be exposed to include physical and sexual violence, arbitrary arrest and detention, extortion and harassment, human trafficking, forced HIV testing and medical interventions" “They can also be excluded from health care and housing services and other social and legal protection.” she added. -
